PayPal Wedding calendar

PayPal wanted to get into the wedding business. To do so, we helped them spread the word to media partners that couples could use PayPal to pay for almost every part of their wedding. Since wedding planning typically takes around 16 months, we created a desk-side calendar highlighting the moments from engagement to honeymoon in which PayPal could help. Since the calendar is small enough to keep on your desk, it also served as a planted PayPal branded reminder for monthly stories.

Illustrations

We oriented the calendar to the timeline of an October wedding, the most popular month to get married. Each month featured an illustration that not only corresponded to an October wedding's timeline, but also to key associations from that month. For instance, January was illustrated with a First Dance, a nod to being the first month of the year; May was about Invitations which also tied to the biggest stationery show which media would be covering.

creation of the calendar

In typical wedding vernacular, I letterpress printed the calendars and also employed a prominent wedding calligrapher (who accepts PayPal :) to create the hand lettered headlines. Each of the wooden stands were also handmade by a woodworker. Below are images of the hand mixed Pantone inks, an animation of the layered colors and me on press.

The KNOT PARTNERSHIP

To gain legitimacy in the wedding industry, PayPal partnered with The Knot to release their annual wedding finance survey. This save the date was mailed with the calendar in order to open the door for PR team followup.
